Job Role Summary
Engineering specialist machinery engineer contact for the assigned business units and involved in resolution of plant issues which:
  • Provide engineering expertise to Process, Maintenance, Technical and other functions of the manufacturing complex
  • Lead/support RCFA, troubleshooting of plant issues and develop engineering solutions
  • Provide machinery engineering support for modifications/new installations and applications. Eg. Review and approve MoCs, development of engineering specifications and requirements, design appraisal, review and provide inputs for new installations, support test and commissioning
  • Support project development and execution. Eg. FEED studies, development of facility design specifications, NPQC, startup support, commissioning etc
  • Provide engineering expertise support to the Singapore Manufacturing Complex (SCP and Refinery) for safe and reliable operations. The work includes but is not  limited to engineering assessment, engineering design, plant trouble-shooting and equipment failure root cause failure analysis, long term equipment improvement initiatives and provide engineering solutions to problems in specific field
  • Provide engineering expertise support for project managed by EMMES for the Singapore Manufacturing Complex
  • Provide support for major shutdown maintenance or major equipment maintenance work. e.g. Turnaround or Gas Turbine Generator  major inspection etc
  • Key contact for their area of expertise
  • Provide technical training as required in the area of expertise
  • Participate in respective network activities as required
  • Initiate/support changes in technology or work practices to improve plant reliability
  • Support site GRS initiatives/programs. Eg. resolution of bad actors, development of equipment strategies, incident investigations, risk assessments, risked based work selection
  • Support development/improvements in site procedures, practices and standards. Eg. maintenance procedures/practices, review of GIIs
  • Lead/Support machinery health assessment. Eg. Major Machinery Walkabout, Major Machinery Improvement Team, Review lube oil reports, vibration analysis, rotor storage procedures etc
  • Lead /support machinery turnaround as required
  • Provide technical trainings as subject matter expert
  • Lead development of machinery long term reliability improvement plan.
  • Site representative and support for Core Engineering & EMRE initiatives. Eg. gap assessment of best practices etc
  • Provide ad-hoc support/peer assist to other sites
  • Provide site subject matter expert support for the development of major projects
  • Site alternate representative for worldwide machinery network
  • Provide inputs for annual and long term maintenance budget
Expected Level of Proficiency
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university
  • Sound engineering knowledge in the respective engineering field
  • Experience in equipment engineering specifications and standards
  • Familiar with industrial standards, local codes and ExxonMobil practices
  • An effective team player with good communication & interpersonal skills

Licensing Technical Support Engineer

Job Role Summary
  • ExxonMobil Chemical Company (EMCC) manufactures basic chemicals (ethylene, p-xylene), intermediates, synthetics and a broad range of specialty and commodity polymers. 
  • EMCC also licenses technology for the production of p-xylene, ethylbenzene and cumene through its Catalysts and Licensing organization.
  • World-wide technical support to catalyst and technology licensees is provided by the Licensing Technical Support (LTS) group from Baytown (Texas, USA) and Singapore.  Additional technical support resources will shortly be located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
  • LTS Engineers work closely with licensees to help them reliably operate EMCC’s technology; they also work in teams to develop technical proposals for our technology offerings to potential customers.   
  • The tasks performed by LTS engineers require strong technical skills in process design, process modeling and simulation, aromatics technology and heterogeneous catalysis.  Other required skills include good verbal and written communication, the ability to work in teams and good organizational skills.    
  • Prepares technical proposals for prospective clients, from simple yields estimates to full feasibility studies involving PRO/II simulations, heat and material balances, rating of existing vessels, heat exchangers, fired heaters, compressors, pumps, and columns.  Reviews technical proposals developed for prospective clients.
  • Develops process performance guarantees and catalyst guarantees for commercial proposals. Writes / reviews guarantee section in License and Catalyst Supply Agreements.
  • Develops Process Design Specification Book (PDSB) for new projects.  Supports newly awarded projects.  This includes attending kick-off meetings, PFD and P&ID reviews, coordinating reactor internals design with other ExxonMobil engineering organizations and reviewing PDBs. 
  • Addresses questions during detailed design and commissioning phases.  Attends HAZOP Review meetings, delivers operating guides and training manuals, and conducts training sessions. 
  • Provides on-site or remote assistance for catalyst loading, unit start-up and process performance test, for either new units or catalyst replacements. 
  • Develops quarterly monitoring reports for clients. 
  • Contributes to Intellectual Property (IP) generation.
  • Builds simulation models for newly marketed technologies based on pilot plant studies. Updates existing models for current technologies based on commercial feedback.
  • Works with licensing managers to improve catalyst performance consistency.
  • Provides technical input for development of new catalytic systems.
Expected Level of Proficiency
  • B.S., M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or other related discipline, with approximately 5 - 10 years of appropriate experience.
  • Sound knowledge of transalkylation, toluene disproportionation, xylenes isomerization and aromatics alkylation processes.
  • Process design experience.
  • Process modeling and simulation (PRO/II, HTRI, PEGASYS, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of aromatics complex processes (reforming, separation, extraction etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with teams.
  • Ability to present complex concepts to senior management and third parties.
  • Willing and able to travel extensively.
  • Able to operate in a diverse global environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing third party relationships (partners and clients).
  • Understanding of catalyst technologies and catalyst manufacturing.
  • Basic understanding of contractual language (License Agreements, Lease Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements).
  • Heterogeneous catalysis.
  • Kinetic model development and application.
  • Reactor development and design.
  • Experience with IP management.
  • Understanding of petrochemical plant operations.
  • Fluency in any of the following languages would be beneficial: Mandarin, Korean, Russian, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.
